Mead Botanical Garden was dedicated to Theodore L Mead in 1940 by his two good friends Jack Connery and Dr. Edwin Grover. Theodore L. Mead was a world-renowned horticulturist who loved to grow orchids and develop new plant varieties. Connery and Grover were not only searching for a location to house Mead’s orchids, but they were also looking to develop a botanical garden to honor his name and achievements. They decided on a perfect lush habitat between Lake Sue and Lake Virginia that hosted an abundance of local wildlife and plants.
Mead Botanical Garden’s vision is to improve and maintain an urban oasis where nature, people and culture live harmoniously. The mission of Mead Botanical Garden is to enrich the community through the discovery, enjoyment and celebration of nature and the cultural arts in beautiful Winter Park.
