The Town of Oakland was established in 1887 and is one of the oldest municipalities in Orange County.  Located in west Orange County between John’s Lake and Lake Apopka, Oakland has a diverse history of railroads and agriculture.  It is a diverse, thriving small community known for a laid-back lifestyle and majestic oak trees.  Oakland is the home of the Oakland Nature Preserve which was created to restore and preserve the area adjacent to Lake Apopka and educate future generations on the history of the area and the 130 acres of wetlands
